History
The Victor School was established in 1989 as the Winthrop Street School, and was later renamed to honor one of the agency founders, Ann Victor. Mrs. Victor recognized the lack of much needed mental health services for adolescents.

Philosophy

Most students come to The Victor School because other school settings have lacked the supports needed by our students for them to be able to work to their potential or to feel successful. At The Victor School, we provide challenging academics in a nurturing, therapeutic setting, using collaboration, coaching and creative problem-solving to give each individual student the tools needed to attain his or her goals. Our mission is to provide strategies to allow students to reach their full academic, social, emotional and transitional potential. We design our program around the understanding that students can succeed, and we provide students and their families with the tools to meet—and often exceed—their goals. The school employs a modified version of the Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS) approach for problem solving and positive decision-making.

The Victor School is a learning community committed to developing well-educated, healthy, engaged students in a respectful, safe, supportive environment. The school maintains high expectations with a challenging curriculum, balanced with supports and skills to promote emotional health and stability.

Approval

The Victor School is fully approved by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

School Calendar

The Victor School operates on a 12-month basis, with 216 days of instruction. The school day runs from 8:30-3:00 PM. Our academic year is divided into 5 semesters, which gives students the opportunity to complete missing credits, to participate in enrichment courses, or to be a part of the internship program.

Referrals:

The Victor School accepts referrals funded through sending school districts, and works with, on average, over 20 school districts annually. We work closely with local school districts to provide students with opportunities to take classes in their local high school, or to participate in college courses. This takes place when students are beginning to transition back to their local communities, or are looking forward to attending college.

Referrals for private-pay families are also accepted.

The school has open enrollment, and students are referred throughout the year by the Special Education Department of the school district in which they live.
