A Partner in Successful Treatment

Referrals to the van der Kolk Center are received from in-state school systems and state agencies including the Department of Children and Families, Department of Mental Health, Department of Youth Services.  We also accept referrals from private persons and out-of-state medical, mental health and social service agencies.

What types of students is your program prepared to serve?

The van der Kolk Center at Glenhaven Academy serves adolescents between the ages of 12 and 22 who have struggled with significant and chronic past trauma and/or organic mental illness. Typically our students are currently struggling with emotional dysregulation, at-risk behaviors, behavioral issues, academic issues, and at times psychosis. The van der Kolk Center works to provide assessment and individualized treatment to help our students build a strong core of internal skill sets to heal and to find long term success.

How much will tuition cost?

Because we offer comprehensive assessment, treatment and aftercare services, and highly individualized services, costs associated with enrolling in at the van der Kolk center can vary.  The van der Kolk Center has an approved private special education program daily rate (tuition price) set through the Massachusetts Operational Services Division. Our intake advisors will be happy to work with you to develop a detailed financial picture based upon your family’s unique needs.

Are program staff qualified and licensed professionals?

In addition to being talented, dedicated and experienced, our teachers, therapists, counselors and other staff members possess a range of licenses and credentials including Licensed Independent Social workers, Licensed Mental Health Clinicians (LMHC), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN’s). Masters of Education, PhD’s, and post-doctoral candidates.

Is the program accredited?

Yes. The van der Kolk Center/Glenhaven Academy is approved by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), and licensed the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care (DEEC).

What is the typical length of stay for students at the van der Kolk Center?

Typically the length of stay is 6-12 months for the residential portions of program . However, student length of stay vary widely depending on complexities of need, student support and discharge plan as well as other treatment variables.  Our treatment team works with families and referral sources to shorten lengths of stays whenever possible and help students reach permanency quickly.
