The therapeutic approach is cognitive behavioral and includes Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), individual, group, and family therapy. The Wood School has adapted DBT to the cognitively limited student, by simplifying and clarifying the verbal approach and creating more concrete steps leading to changes in thought and behavior. JRI staff have lectured on this unique application at national conferences. DBT has been a very effective rehabilitative tool, helping the cognitively limited individual develop the skills necessary for reintegration into the community.
Each student works closely with their clinician and treatment team to develop a treatment plan. Clinical services include individual therapy, group therapy, trauma informed therapy, DBT groups and support, family therapy, and family support.
Swansea Wood School also provides in home intensive services to support our students' transition home successfully. These intensive services are individualized and flexible. We work closely with students and their families to provide whatever assistance is necessary to keep students in the home successful.
