About the Doc Wayne Athletic League

The Doc Wayne Athletic League was founded in 2002 as part of Justice Resource Institute (JRI), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable organization. It was found by former JRI President, Susan Wayne in memory of her brother, Eli (Doc) Wayne. This therapeutic sports league is now an independant 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization with over 100 volunteer coaches.

DWAL is a unique therapeutic four sport, four Athletic season league for adolescent boys and girls whose young lives have been marred by trauma, abuse and neglect. The League seeks to offer these youth a wonderfully fun experience and at the same time they learn from DtG (Do the Good), a positive youth development and skills curriculum offered on the courts and fields as aerobic stimulation has the ability to lift their moods, sharpens their thinking; and most important, allows them to have fun.

Doc Wayne is on NPR! On Saturday, February 27th NPR, 90.9 FM, ran a fantastic story about the Doc Wayne Athletic League called "Only a Game". Please click here to listen to this story.
