Huntington at Symphony (HAS) and Symphony Shared Living (SSL) are co-sited in a 90-unit apartment building in Boston's Symphony area. Each provides supportive services and subsidized apartments, serving approximately 50 previously homeless disabled adults in a mixed-use building. Residents, living with HIV disease and/or mental illness, are provided customized support services, including case management, enabling each to live as independently as possible in the community.
HAS and SSL represent one ideal model for many disabled persons living with HIV disease or ambulatory mental illness, in that its mixed-use setting is not stigmatizing, is located in a convenient urban setting, and offers services that are infused into the fabric of the building and available to individuals according to their service plans and on an as-needed basis.
