Cohannet Academy is a JCAHO-accredited 17 bed intensive residential treatment program for adolescent girls between the ages of 12 - 18, who are coping with serious mental illness and emotional disturbance along with challenging behaviors.

Located in the Goss Building at Taunton State Hospital, Cohannet Academy provides a safe environment from which the girls can learn and grow. Our shared goal for each graduate of the program will be for her to recall her stay as a turning point in her life, a brief, focused time when she learned to believe in herself, and in her future and for her to be able to access this period of learning and partnership as a lasting resource.

Educational Services- Cohannet Academy operates a Massachusetts DOE special education school. During class time, students continue to receive support in working on their treatment goals. Each student meets weekly with her tutorial teacher to work on educational goals, problem-solve school difficulties, plan for educational transitions, develop independence skills, or receive tutoring.

Clinical Service - Clinicians work closely with the Residential, Educational, Nursing and Psychiatry departments to provide a continuum of care. Clinicians at Cohannet Academy provide the following services; Weekly individual therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Treatment Planning, Family and Group Therapy, Psychopharmacological Consultation, Individualized Treatment and Transition Planning.

Milieu Services- Milieu counselors work 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to provide continuous therapeutic support. Those supports include the following; Weekly individual meetings with Primary Counselors, Highly structured programming, Homework help and tutoring, Evening leisure groups, Medical Services, Crisis intervention/prevention, Consequences and incentives, Residential Community meetings, Multidisciplinary Team meetings, Implementation of Treatment plans, Life Skills/PAYA instruction and Collaboration with parents and service providers.

Each student comes to Cohannet Academy with strengths and abilities to build upon. The community at Cohannet fosters these strengths through positive relationships and an environment of mutual respect. Cohannet Academy accepts referrals from the Department of Mental Health and out of state clients.
