Justice Resource Institute’s Community Based Services programs provide a unique opportunity for youth and families to receive in-home supports that result in greater stability in the community. Our services are designed to be intensive and flexible in order to meet the individualized needs of these families. Our program aims to stabilize children, adolescents, and transitional aged youth who are struggling with emotional dysregulation, behavioral issues, and/or mental illness as well as to support their families. We offer two different models of service to choose from, Diversion and Hourly. The goal of Community Based Services is to begin with more intensive services in an effort to stabilize the youth and family and then reduce intensity over time by linking the families to natural and community supports.
JRI’s Community Based Services can be tailored to support children and adolescents with serious emotional disturbances (SED). In addition, we have the ability to make referrals and work closely with two of JRI programs that can help Trauma Center at JRI and the Sidney Borum Health Center.
All of our Community Based Services are established within a WRAP-AROUND framework utilizing a Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) informed approach. Our program integrates the use of DBT skills in all the essential wraparound values such as:
- Family voice and choice
- Team based
- Services are provided in the community where our clients live
- Culturally competent
- Individualized services and supports
- Strength based and needs driven
|
- Natural supports
- Collaboration
- Persistence
- Outcome based

PROGRAM MODELS
Diversion Service Model
The Diversion model is our most intensive community based option available and typically involves meeting with the youth/family 4-5 times per week. The Diversion model is designed for adolescent females aged 12-22 who:
- Are returning either to their biological, foster, or adoptive home after being in and out of placements;
- Have experienced multiple hospitalizations; or
- Are in jeopardy of being removed from their current home setting due to problematic behavior.
What is Diversion? Diversion is a service used for accessing and utilizing a residential bed for clients who have been assessed to need a temporary out-of-home respite for stabilization.
What is Respite? The goal of respite is to stabilize problematic behavior and quickly return clients to the community while avoiding a more permanent out-of-home placement. Clients are provided with 1:1 staffing and an opportunity to work through their immediate difficulties in a structured setting with few distractions. Respite is offered at one of two ofJRI’s well-known residential programs Glenhaven Academy , located in Marlborough, Massachusetts OR the Walden Street School located in Concord, Massachusetts.
Hourly Service Model
The Hourly model has the ability to support youth who are at risk for being placed out-of-home or hospitalized and/or to support the reunification process. The Hourly model can be as intensive as the Diversion model or less intensive based on the individualized needs of the youth and family. The Hourly model typically requires meeting with the youth/family 2-3 times per week and includes services for girls and boys aged 6-22.
