Boston GLASS Community Center - What We Offer
Our Space
Monday through Thursday from 3 PM to 8 PM and Friday 3 PM to 5 PM we're a safe place where LGBT youth can hang out, make new friends, meet up with old ones, and just chill. We have a central community space for socializing and activities, along with a meeting and classroom area, the Wayne Wright Resource Library, and the David Bohnett Cyber Center computer stations, a TV, DVD player and even a kitchen where you can grab a bite to eat.
Support Services
We know that it's not easy being young and LGBT. Our staff of four full-time professionals is here to provide informal counseling, advocacy, and referrals on everything from housing issues to health care.
Lots of interesting conversations take place in our lounge area, but sometimes a smaller more intimate setting is what people are looking for. The center offers a variety of discussion groups. Many of our groups change with the needs of the youth who come here. Check our CALENDAR for a list of current groups and their meeting times.
We're also able to provide on-site, anonymous HIV counseling and testing. Click here to find out more about HIV Testing.
Shades of Color: Our Peer Education & Leadership Development Program
- Shades of Color Mission -- To conduct effective educational outreach to our peers on issues of: HIV/AIDS other STDs and Pregnancy; Safer Sex; Homophobia and Transphobia; Racism, Safety and Decision-making; Coming out; and Self-Love.
- Members of Shades of Color -- If you look at us, we look a lot like you. We are many different races and/or ethnicities. We speak other languages besides English. We come from various class backgrounds. We are males and females of various genders and sexualities.
We are a Protect Teen Health group. There are many groups like ours in the Boston and surrounding areas. All of the peers in PTH groups are committed to HIV prevention and AIDS awareness. We believe that youth talking to other youth makes a difference!
What we do!
Workshops -- We go outside Boston GLASS also. We facilitate workshops for other community organizations, colleges and high schools, etc. Although, we most often conduct Anti-homophobia and transphobia workshops, other topics of our workshops are:
- Show Me What You're Working With -- A workshop about Body Image, Self-Worth, and HIV Prevention.
- Safer Sexy -- How to get intimate without doin it!
- HIV/STD/ Pregnancy Prevention -- How to protect yourself like you love yourself.
Outreach -- We make sure GLASS is provided with safer sex supplies such as male and female condoms, dental dams, lube, and information about testing and testing sites. We also do outreach outside GLASS by offering safer sex supplies and info in the Fens, Copley Library and Newbury Street areas because these places are where a lot of other youth hang out.
How can you get a workshop to your space? Call our Peer Advisor, Victoria, at 617.266.3349 x 204 to set up a workshop. We most often conduct workshops on Thursdays, but we are flexible. We will need to know how many people with whom we will be talking, the topic/workshop you are most interest in, your location and the best way to get there, and how we can reach you. We don't charge for our
